DIG this week's security tip

HACKERS TARGET SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS

Social media can be a powerful tool for organizations to connect with their customers, but did you know that it's also a prime target for hackers?

Why would they want to do that? For one, they can use your account to spread malware, phishing scams, or fake news. They could also use your accounts to impersonate the organization to trick customers into giving away personal information. Or they can use your account to harm your reputation by posting offensive or inappropriate content.

A few ways to protect your organization’s social media from hackers include:

  1. As always, use strong passwords for all your accounts and change them regularly.

  2. Be cautious when granting access to your social media accounts and make sure all employees with access are aware of the importance of keeping them secure.

  3. Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA).

  4. Regularly check the activity on your accounts and monitor for suspicious activity. Even if your organization does not have social media accounts, regularly check to make sure fraudulent ones have not been created.

By taking these simple steps, you can help keep your organization's social media accounts secure and prevent hackers from causing issues.
