DIG this week's security tip

Security researchers have discovered instances of mobile device apps engaging in data and money-stealing tricks. Before downloading a new app on your phone, here are some tips to follow to keep your device and personal information more secure from cyberthreats.

Choose Safer Mobile Apps
  1. Do research before downloading an app. Check the reviews, ratings, and comments to see what other users are saying about it.

  2. When you install an app, it will usually ask for permission to access certain features on your phone, such as your camera or microphone. Read the permission requests carefully before downloading and only give permission to what is necessary for the app's functionality.

  3. Only download apps from trusted sources, such as the official app store for your device. Don’t download from third-party sources or websites, as they may contain malware or viruses.

  4. Read the app's privacy policy to understand how the app collects, uses, and shares your personal information. If you're not comfortable with the app's privacy policy, don’t download the app.
